It's my grandma duty!

Being the grandma means that whenever one of the grandkids is selling something for school or a club they belong to, I must buy…it is my grandma duty! *VBS*

I have bought overpriced popcorn, flower seeds, trinkets, magnets, candles, nuts, candy & assorted fruits. I loved the navel oranges and the red delicious apples though. I probably have forgotten some items…but, I’m a grandma and you can’t expect me to remember everything, after all these years of buying.

Now, there are only two grandchildren in school. Megan is a junior in high school and the other is Brandon, aka Baby Bear who will be in 6th grade in the fall. Brandon is currently in the Boy Scouts and his troop is trying to raise money for a week long camping trip for the boys and their families. I like how the boy scouts are encouraging the whole family to participate in all activities…even grandmas are welcomed.

On Saturday, Brandon’s scout troop had a bake sale which I missed...it was in another town and too early for me. They purposely didn’t ask me to bake anything because they had heard from my dear husband about the brownies I baked the week before. I couldn’t help it, if you could use them as a hockey puck. They weren’t burned, but there was NO WAY to get them out of the baking pan…My husband even threatened to just throw the whole pan away, after he bent the knife trying to cut one unsuccessfully.

Getting back to the boy scouts…The nicest thing that I have bought so far, other than the crayon school bus from my grandson Matt, are the Freedom Flashlights from Brandon…you know the kind you just shake, no batteries required, you can run over them with your truck, they’re waterproof and can float in water. I bought SEVERAL of these little gems…and would have bought more, but my grandson needed to keep a couple for his other granny to buy. I think I paid for one scout to go to camp with that purchase…Now we have to work on getting the rest of the family there. I wonder if they have any more of those flashlights.

P.S. My husband just informed me that it’s not just grandchildren, but also nieces & nephews and our friends who have children, that we have to buy from too. He’s right…but he just ruined the theme of my post.

lol what a delightful post...I can't wait to be a grandma!! I remember when my boys were younger and selling stuff like that through school or bowling, my mom was always expected to be the first one to buy! hehe

Funny you should mention that! My order is due in today. It's the "1st" fundraiser for the 8th grade class! (Our grandson is just finishing 7th grade next week!) Each 8th grader is required to raise $1500 each!
I bought $52 worth of cookies (that's 4 boxes)
I always buy, but the stuff is outrageously overpriced and the school doesn't get much (in this case 10%)

I need to find a Boy Scout and see if they have any of those flashlights. Good Grandma.
The little ones will be starting school so I guess Steve and I will get our chance to start buying stuff soon. I guess the older grand daughter just lives too far away or decides not to sell things.

Husbands, hummph, why do they think they know everything? I'm a bad nanna, I only buy Boy & Girl Scout stuff. Man o man those cookies & popcorn.

Yes, we as parents hate to ask people to buy these things especially when some things are over priced... but it is for a good cause:) And between you and the other granny you both did a great thing because now Baby Bear can go to summer camp for a week with boy scouts. So Baby Bear and we really appreciate your help! And our friends Randy and Donna always say to us, that they know that you and the other granny will be the first to buy our "stuff" from Brandon.

Like you said, that is what grandma's and granny's do. You and Jimmy are a GREAT grandparents!

THANK YOU!!

Of course that is what Grandma's do!! I buy the candy too and I'm not a grandma. Hard to resist the little ones when they ask!

I need some of those flashlights.

We also have to do the same. What gripes me is the companies are the ones making out like bandits. Can't the school, boy scout, or what ever find a honest company to deal with.

I think it's neat that you make it your grandmotherly duty to buy all these things from your grandchildren. I do some of the same thing for my nephews and nieces and children of friends in my church's Sunday School class.

My grandbabies aren't old enough to participate yet, but all of my music students are!!! Ugh!!! I spend a lot of money with them at Christmas time too!!!

I've bought just about all of the same stuff you have. Chocolate Turtles are my favorite!!

You're such a sweet grandma :) I like the sound of those flashlights.
Yes, we've all been there and done that by the sound of things. I wish the schools got a bigger percentage of the sale...the kids (and parents)are doing the work and don't get much to show for it.
