A First

I was going to write about the mole problem in my yard today, but as I was going outside to take some pictures, Jimmy told me to look in the pond first. And what a surprise to find 5 waterlily blooms!!
We have NEVER had 5 bloom at one time. Our water garden is about 3 years old and last year we celebrated when 2 bloomed at once. I guess this calls for dinner at Red Lobster for me!!! Any excuse will do and I may even drive the bike there myself....NO, better not....I'm not ready for that much traffic yet and I do want to remain alive just a little while longer.
Here's a close-up of the white waterlily.
These are some flower seeds we scattered in early spring and they are just beginning to bloom. I probably should have waited until the blackeyed Susan's bloomed before taking the picture, but I thought they looked so pretty right now, that I wanted to share them with you.
This is just a close up of these pretty pink flowers and below are red flowers. As you know, I don't know many flower names, so if you know the names of any flowers that I post, please feel free to name them in the comments.

Hi Sandy...*VBS* Love the picture of the water lilies..they are soooo beautiful...hope you got to eat out and celebrate!!

Your scattering of seeds...the blue ones that looks alittle like carnations(sometimes they shade to almost pink or pinkish white) are bachlor buttons..a personal favorite!! They bloom well, and often and will re-seed themselves for next year.
The pinkish magenta ones are cosmos, they have the very lacy kind of foliage. They come in mnay colors...that one being a fairly common one. I think the dark reds ones below are also sosmos. From the picture they look like the same petal shape to me, but I haven't see that dark a color before. Your cup runneth over this summer with blossoms..Hugs, Finn

Oh l would love a pond with waterlilies- how wonderful to see that this morning!
The flowers are wonderful. I think you have Cosmos Bipinnatus, Blue Cornflowers and possibly Chocolate Cosmos. If you smell the dark maroon flowers see if they smell of chocolate- no kidding!
Bests.

Beautiful pond and lilies, I know you must enjoy them immensely. And the colorful flowers from seeds turned out great, looking forward to the blackeyed Susans! Thanks for sharing.

I would love to sit by your pond and admire it all day long:-) The water lilies are so perfect and I also love all your other flowers. Like you, I'm not familiar with a lot of the names but from reading blogs I'm slowly starting to learn what flowers are what! lol

Beautiful water lilies....your pond must be gorgeous....you posted some great pictures Sandy..

You mentions moles, I don't know if I have moles or ground hogs, but 9 babies have been seen in my yard, and I looked out yesterday and a baby was on my deck taking a bite out of my plant.....I keep the camera handy since then, but I haven't been able to capture them......thanks for sharing....

Your water lilies are superb! How lucky you are to have that lovely pond, and what a treat to have 5 blooming at once. Six if you count the white. Go to Red Lobster!!
Your cosmos and bachelor buttons are so cheery and pretty. If I could see the leaves on the maroon flowers I might have a better idea. Do they have the same leaves as the pink cosmos?
For moles I found a product called Sweeney's Poison peanuts in Walmart. It's cheap (about $3) and comes in a cone-shaped container. You put a few pellets in the hole and cover it with a rock. Works great!
