Two Traveling Angels

I thought this was a fitting post for a Sunday and actually for any day of the week. It’s called the Two Traveling Angels. It was originally sent to me by Reva, my wonderful daughter-in-law, and I sent it on to a few choice friends and then this morning, as I was enjoying my first cup of coffee, it came to me that I should share it with all my blogpals who visit me.

This little story has made its rounds in emails for sometime and I’m sure some of you have already seen it, but it’s worth reading again.

Two Traveling Angels

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family.

The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room.

Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold basement.

As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it.

When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied,

"Things aren't always what they seem."

The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife.

After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest.

When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears.

Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field.

The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel how could you have let this happen?

The first man had everything, yet you helped him, she accused.

The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die.

"Things aren't always what they seem," the older angel replied.

"When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall.

Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it."

"Then last night as we slept in the farmers bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead.

Things aren't always what they seem."

Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should. If you have faith, you just need to trust that every outcome is always to your advantage. You just might not know it until some time later..

Now this next item was sent to me by my Aunt Virginia who lives in California…”Hi, Aunt Virginia, I love you.” It is called:

Things to ponder

The nicest thing about the future is that it always starts tomorrow.

Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.

If you don’t have a sense of humor, you probably don’t have any sense at all.

Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs.

A good time to keep your mouth shut is when you’re in deep water.

How come it takes so little time for a child who is afraid of the dark to become a teenager who wants to stay out all night?

Business conventions are important because they demonstrate how many people a company can operate without.

Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger than everyone else looks?

Scratch a dog and you’ll find a permanent job.

No one has more driving ambition than the boy who wants to buy a car.

There are no new sins; the old ones just get more publicity.

There are worse things than getting a call for a wrong number at 4 a.m. It could be a right number.

Think about this…No one ever say, “It’s only a game,” when his team is winning.

I’ve reached the age where the happy hour is a nap.

Be careful reading the fine print. There’s no way you’re going to like it.

The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket.

Do you realize that in about 40 years, we’ll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos? (And RAP music will be the Golden Oldies!)

Money can’t buy happiness…but somehow it’s more comfortable to cry in a Corvette than in a Yugo.

After a certain age, if you don’t wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.

Oh Sandy, I had never read Two Traveling Angels before...it brought tears to my eyes, it's so true and meaningful. How many times do we see things in a different way and let anger take over, not realizing "it isn't as it seems"! Thank you for sharing this. Also loved the Things to Ponder:-)

Guess I alive and kicking cause every joint seems to have a mind of it's own lately. Great quotes. Hope I am around long enough to see some of the 'tatoos' get older - have seen a few already and it isn't a pretty site.

That last one is so true.

Finally caught up with you. It's been hot and I've fallen behind on reading.
