Eye Exam

Last week Jimmy made himself an appointment to see his eye doctor. He had noticed, that all of a sudden, he was having trouble seeing things clearly. Of course, we thought it was just time for a new prescription of contacts…it had been one year.

Last Friday he went for his eye exam and the doctor told him that he didn’t want to prescribe anything new until he saw another doctor…an eye surgeon. Jimmy has a cataract in his left eye and he has a referral to see Dr. E on Monday, Sept. 11th. The reason I’m calling this doctor, Dr.E is because I can’t remember his name, at the moment and it’s really not that important to my post.

What will be important is what his recommendation will be. We are hoping for a quick surgery to remove the cataract and restore his eyesight, but we just have to wait to see what this surgeon has to say.

On another note…This is day 6 of rainy weather. Yesterday I started to feel a slight chill in the air and today it’s cold outside…if you’re wearing shorts and a t-shirt. One nice thing about it, is that we have turned off the air conditioning and opened the windows for some nice fresh air. What I didn’t anticipate was that a tomcat would try to get in through the window screens. All I was expecting was a breeze of cool air flowing thru the house…NOT Ferbie trying to tear down the screen to get inside. Thank God, he finally gave up and went away!

Jimmy & I are spending a quiet weekend at home for the Labor Day holidays. We try not to go anywhere on holidays…it’s just too crowded on the roads, and we have all the time in the world, since we are both retired that we don’t have to travel on these days.

Of course you probably noticed in the previous post that Cucoo & Snail took off with Maria, the little blue car with the camper, for the holiday weekend. I’m sure they’ll have a great time camping. It’s nice to see Cucoo get out and have fun. On Wednesday he is meeting some bloggers in Lexington and he’s so excited….I hope he remembered to take his camera with him.

Everyone...have a nice weekend and be safe!

Good luck on the eye exam. We celebrate holidays the same as you, staying off the road and out of the crowds. After sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic for a couple of hours coming home from Panama City, FL one Memorial Day weekend, that was it. Have a good holiday!

My husband is also facing cataract surgery. Possibly Oct?
His vision also got fuzzy rather quickly!
Enjoy the weekend...

Hope everything goes well. Hate to have him "stuck" behind you on the trike.

Wow, I sure hope that they recommend surgery and all goes well. You're on day 6 of rain? We're supposed to have 4 days of rain starting tomorrow.

Enjoy your weekend!

Sorry to hear about Jimmy's eye. From what I have been told, cataract surgery is fairly simple these days. Keep us informed as to what the MD says.

We also are staying at home in the house. We never go out on the roads during the holidays. Hope you have a nice quiet weekend.

Good luck on the surgery. The doctors can do amazing things today. My Mom had cataracts removed and had to change her glasses she sees so much better.

hmm @ eye exam .. well good luck.
the lower the second number the better the eye sight .. for example what's better than 20/20? it will be 20/15.

I had cataract surgery several years ago. Out of the office in an hour, that night the patch came off and I could see colors I forgot existed. The next day went back for post op exam and had 20/20 vision. They do miraculous things with this now days.

Cataract surgery is no big deal. I'm only in my 40s and have had cataract surgery on both eyes - second youngest patient they hadf ever seen.

He'll do fine!

Hi Sandy, sorry to hear about the loss of vision for Jimmy. Having been through 7 eye surgeries, I kind of know what's what. And things change every day and year in that field.
I think probably it will be a fairly quick and easy procedure, but it depends on the type of catarac. Like most things, they come in several varieties. The most common, nucular, is an easy one. Ones behind the eye pose a bit more of a challenge. Probably the thing that will impact his treatment and outcome, besides the type, is his age. As our eyes age, they(like everything else) aren't as flexible. Where a younger person might get back to 20/20 vision, it may not be quite that good depending on his age.
You are doing absolutely the right things tho, it's NOT something that you can let go. I'll keep both of you in my prayers. Hugs, Finn

Good thing your husband's cataract was quickly discovered so that he can immediately began treatment. Cataract is fairly easy to cure these days, thanks to modern optical care. Good luck on his operation! I have no doubt his vision will return to normal in no time.
