Berea Arts & Crafts Fair

On Saturday, Brian, Brandon & I attended the Berea Arts & Crafts Fair. It is held twice a year in Berea, Kentucky...usually once in the spring and then again in the fall of the year. Artisans from all over get together to display their handmade crafts...And I must say their work is professional. In order to be accepted into this guild of artisans you must submit four items for the Guild of Artists & Craftmen to judge. After close inspection they either accept or reject you.
Here are some of the pictures that I took and hopefully you can
Woodworking

Woodworking

Wooden boxes & assorted wooden items

Aren't these wooden pedistal bowls beautiful!

These are colorful painted & sculptured goards

An Indian booth of painted skins, skulls & paintings

Broom making

More wooden turned bowls and stuff

Furniture from large tree branches

Pottery booths...and they really didn't have enough of these this year.

More wood-turning bowls

These wood-turning items were one of a kind because they were made especially from wooden peices that contained flaws...Such as from trees being struck by lightning, from tree burls, water damaged trees, knots...just any kind of damaged wood, that's what this artisan would use to make his beautiful pieces.

The pictures above that I've posted, don't do justice to the beautiful artwork. You really have to be there, to pick-up and to feel the items. The artisans encouraged picking up and feeling the wooden pieces...they were so smooth and felt so good to the touch. And I think they wanted you to fall in love with each item, buy it and take it home. I only wish I could have taken some of these pieces home with me too!!

Please note that I made 3 spelling errors that I know of (craftsmen, pedestal & pieces) and I'm not pressing my luck by editing my post, because of the many pictures that I have posted. Blogger has never allowed me to post this many pictures before.

So please accept my appology for my spelling errors.

Apology excepted. I didn't notice as I read them that they were mispelled! Did I mispell mispelled???

Was this at Indian Fort Theater? I loved the baskets!! Also all the wooden items, even the unusual chairs make from wood. How neat and different.

You grandson Matt and his wife Tori are certainly a lovely couple!

Cats do not like change!! Blame it on Jybow!!! :)

Blogger does seem to be in a generous mood for posting pictures. I didn't pick up on the spelling errors either. The craftsmanship of these artisans is amazing!

Berea Kentucky, home of Berea College. I tried to get all my kids to go there to no avail, I just love their philosophy. This looks like a fabulous craft show, I hate that I missed it.

My bloglines must not have picked up this feed last night or you posted after I got off I don't know which...but I love a craft show!! Those bowls were pretty but a bit odd weren't they...different!! The Owensboro craft show is where I found my exploding outhouse in a booth very simular to these!!
:-D

Owensboro??? That's only 80 miles from us.

I absolutely am crazy about all that WOOD stuff. I want one of those, and one of those, and two of those . . . if you get my drift. Everything is so lovely and I probably would have spent a bundle of money if I had been there.

Thanks for the big tease by showing all these artisans' one-of-a-kind artwork. No stained glass pictures, though. (I can sit and look at mine and am constantly amazed how beautiful mine is. It changes as the light outside changes and makes it quite gorgeous. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.)

Love the fall festivals, the annual Apple Festival is going on here in our little town of Ellijay. We avoided the traffic last weekend, but will probably go next weekend. Great looking crafts, thanks for sharing!
