Good Physical Exercise

Brian, Reva, Jimmy & I worked all day long yesterday and boy did it feel good doing some real physical work. Jimmy said I wouldn't of ever been able to carry all the wood that I carried...and some was really big...if it hadn't been for all the riding I've done on that trike. I have built up my stamina and can ride all day now...So carrying firewood was a breeze except for one of the trees was down a hill and I twisted my left knee, just a bit, trying to carry a log that was way to big. The only reason I lost my footing was because of all of the other wood in the way. Not to worry...my knee feels fine this morning...just some slight tenderness.
I couldn't help but notice that the trees changed overnight into their fall colors. I'll post some more fall pictures in another post. It frosted the last two nights although during the day it has been in the 70's...well at least that's what it felt like...and sometimes it felt like it was 80ºF when I was carrying that firewood!
I could only take pictures when we stopped for a needed break. Brian & Reva are both disabled and did all they could but they needed very frequent breaks. Although Jimmy will be 70 next month, he can work with the best of them...He's as strong as an ox and some of the pieces of wood he moved yesterday were beyond what the rest of us could handle. Just look at the size of some of the pieces in the picture. Sometimes we had to all help push and maneuver some pieces around, but Jimmy was our muscle. I know that Brian & Reva would agree on that too.
Reva also loaded up her car trunk 3 times, single handedly and was really a big help although she had to leave to take Doug to physical therapy and then again to take him home. She did a lot of walking up and down a hill carrying wood and when it came time for us to carry it, we put the jeep into 4-wheel drive and drove down there.*LOL* There was plenty of wood nearby, I think Reva just wanted that extra exercise...what do you think?
We both got rid of our pickup trucks, thinking that we wouldn't need them again, so we hauled the firewood in this trailer...worked just fine especially for the really big stuff. No lifting required...we just tilted the trailer and rolled it on. I think it would have been harder for me to lift the wood up high enough to throw it over & into the bed of a tall pickup truck.

We're not through yet, but today it's raining...I can hear the pitter patter on the roof as I type. I think we can all use a day of rest to sharpen up the chainsaws and get things ready for the next time. Did I tell you that some of the wood had to be split before we could even move it?

Despite the hard work, I had a ball yesterday!!! It brought back memories of the days I heated with wood and would come home from work and spend time splitting wood. I loved it and I still love working with wood...I'm just a little out of shape...Well that's not quite true....I'm a lot out of shape.

Physical exercise is good and it looks like you all had your share!! I know you didn't get cold carrying that wood around. Glad you had some help. That always makes it more fun.

I loved your chimney post below too. When I see an old chimney like that I always wonder about the home and who lived there, etc.

We can't thank you two enough for your help yesterday! We couldn't have done it if you all didn't help us!

We worried about you two last night and are glad to hear you are alright. We do agree about Jimmy Boy! is he a worker!!!! I think Brian feels bad that he can't do that physical work like he used to.

Again, thank you so much for the help.

I wanted to say, What about you taking the sledge hammer and helping split wood!? Wow, you two amaze me! We should have gotten a picture of you doing that! :)

That's a lot of hard, physical labor you guys are doing. Glad you knee feels better! Good thing Brian and Reva could use all that firewood for this winter. They are lucky you two are so helpful and generous.

it is funny that i was catching up on reading here today. I was just trying to explain to Dancer Girl the other how to tell how old a tree was, by counting the rings. So I enlarged that first picture and she tried to count the rings. Her eyes got really big and she finally guessed that that tree was probably 155 yrs old. Someday I will be able to show her one in person so she can count them. We were on a hayride last week and our guide was telling us about some really old trees in the area and that is when the subject came up. The fall colors are really pretty here too.

Sounds like you had a great day, if tiring. I'm envious of you preparing for winter - I'm here dreading the summer. I can feel the intense heat on the wind already...
