A little skimpy after the storm

Our 25 year old Ash Tree was looking pretty good and provided us with lots of shade...especially while laying in the hammock reading a book. These are the before & after pictures of what I always called, "my hammock tree." The after picture was taken this morning and as you can see it was quite foggy out.
The tree will eventually have to be completely removed because part of the trunk is missing on the back side, which you can't see. But I told Jimmy to leave it standing for awhile longer.

Great before and after pics. Poor tree! I hope you'll be able to find another place for the hammock!

Snady ~ What a pitty! We were told that our ash tree was strangling itself and is going to need to be taken out. We were just sick when they told us that. Oh well... I guess we'll just start over with a new one. But we'll miss the coolness and joy of its summer shade! ~ jb///

We once had a paper white birch in our back yard that was approximately 23 years old. One year it decided to just up and die. What a pity because it was a beautiful tree. We now have a bald cypress in its place.

Sorry about your ash. Yes, it was a beautiful tree, and you will probably have to find another place for your hammock until your new tree gets big enough to support a hammock and its passenger. Just think of all the fun you will have picking out a new tree, planting it, and seeing it grow up into something beautiful. You can never have too many trees (except those that drop their leaves into your gutters and you have to clean them out).

It's always sad when a tree has to come out. Seems like it takes forever for them to grow to a decent size!

What a shame...it's funny how we get so used to having certain trees and plants in our yard and when something happens to them and have to be removed, we miss them like crazy!

The ash tree ain't what it used to be! Too bad you'll have to have it taken out. Poor thing. I think maples grow pretty fast, don't they? Lots of leaves though.

Glad your home wasn't damaged with that wind and the cats are safe!!

I love ash trees. I had to cut down two fifty-year-old ones in my yard a couple of years ago because they were rotting in the crotch. I will plant some more ashes someday if I ever get a place with more room.

Trees. What a subject. Before the hurricanes, I always saw them as instruments of protection. But in the swirl of hurricane winds, they became destructive and threatening. Yet, they stand, in peaceful times, so majestic and dignified. It is always a sad thing to lose one. Like losing a beloved patriarch.

Oh Sany, that just breaks my heart...what a lovely tree it was and probably home to many creatures. I left a comment down by Tuesdays post also.
So glad you are all ok, and yes, I'll bet you have some clingy cats for awhile. They really get spooked.
Big hugs, Finn

there is a corner lot near our house that had an old house and lots of trees on it. The house always had huge blooming hydrangeas...i was so sad when they made it into a little shopping center...i still picture the house and trees when i drive by

Wow, what a mess in your yard. You have had much worse storms in your neck of the woods this year than we did in Florida. I didn't even have to board up the windows during this hurricane season, and it is almost over.
