The rest of the pictures around the pond

The picture above is Buffalo Hollow Road which takes you to Shady Oaks where the pond is located. We bought Shady Oaks in 1975 and it remains in our family.

When everyone else is gone, there will always be a family member who remains here forever. Above is the gravesite of my first husband and the children's father.
I think that this years Fall colors brought a special beauty & peace to Shady Oaks. Last year we went to Virginia in search of fall colors, but this year we had to look no further than here.

We couldn't of asked for a more prettier fall this year and I think that everyone in the state of Kentucky would have to agree with me.

Yes, I agree, a very pretty fall this year. We often go out looking for fall color, and upon returning home, wonder why we left. You have a very pretty place, love the name - Shady Oaks. Sounds like a Southern plantation!

Lovely pictures of the homestead. I'm sure you miss living out there, but where you live now is also very pretty. The pond is gorgeous! I'm sure Jim is happy where he can look out over at the pond and cabin.

Yes the fall colors are still here this morning after the storm last night. The whole Commonwealth of Kentucky is vibrant with fall colors.

Love the beauty of Ky!...now will go find out where Madison County is cause it's not real close to Davies County where Brat and I are from or I'd know...hmm, sounds familiar though...

Aha!!! found you...I've drove through on the Interstate but haven't spent any time there...Beautiful!!!

Sandy Hatcher-Wallace said...

kentucky critter...if you drove through on the interstate you were less than a quarter of a mile, as the crow flies, from here.

Jellyhead...Hello to you too and I'm glad you're back from the beach, but I'm sure that you would still like to be there.

Kerri...Shady Oaks was the name of a childhood California mountain retreat that I loved going to as a child. So, of course that's what I named my place.

Rachel...the fall colors have just been spectacular this year and yes, it's very peaceful around the pond.

Pea...I never tire of the view and now two of my children are enjoying it...Somershade & The Four Bears in the Woods.

Paige...thanks for the compliment. You are so sweet!

Sue...that's exactly where he wanted to be, overlooking his pond.

Somershade...you are blessed in many ways and this is just one of them.

tomas dennis...this morning our leaves are falling fast, but not all of them yet...thank goodness we get to enjoy the fall colors just a little bit longer. I imagine that in your part of the state everything has also been vibrant with color.

Motherkitty...I really do miss living out at the cabin and being around the pond...But I love it here too.

Sonia...thank you for your lovely comment.

Susan...thanks for your comment and as I explained to Kerri, the name Shady Oaks came from a California mountain retreat that burned down in one of their forest fires. It was a place I spent much of my youth and where I discovered boys.*LOL*

It is beautiful out here and we enjoy it so much.... Thanks to you and Brian's dad. I know how much work was put into this place and I do respect that, all of us do. We enjoy nature and this is surely the place to do that. It is a shame though that if the damn doesn't get fixed SOON that there will be no more pond to enjoy..... that would definitely be a SHAME.

That certainly is a very lovely place where those pictures were taken. It reminds me of the hills and hollows of West Virginia - so long ago.

That is beautiful. So restful looking. I can hear the birds singing and feel the breeze on my cheeks!

BTW, I did vegan for about a year last time and got to a size 4. Am now a full size 6 from regular food. Of course, today's size 6 is yesteryear's size 10 or 12. Okay, I weigh about 135 right now, down from 142 5 weeks ago! At my lowest eating vegan, I was 120. I am 5'8". Got skinny family genes!
