Frosty Morning

Not just the plants bit the dust this morning, but I found this little warrior on the sidewalk as well.

Wishing to you a lovely Sunday!

Sharon...I probably should have put my hand in the picture as a measure for comparison, but the Praying Mantis was about 4 inches long.

The temp finally reached 58ºF this afternoon and we were very much surprised. It turned out to be a beautiful day.

Ah ha!! And who was it posted a picture of a puppy and a praying mantis just recently???

Only kidding Sandy, I know that wasn't your photo, but I couldn't help mentioning it!! :)

Poor little thing. Did you give it a proper burial? Maybe the cats hurt or killed it? Mine sure gives any insects a hard way to go.

The Lambs wool/ears look really cold too. Burrrrr....... tonight isn't as cold though, in the 30's!

That's a huge mantis. Poor thing. I'm very fond of them and am always happy when one turns up around here.

We don't get a good frost here in Houston until January most years. One of the few advantages of living so close to the tropics. :)

Once in a while we get frost down here. I refer to it as Florida snow!

I do love the change of seasons! Just wish it wasn't so cold when it changed!

I stood outside and watched the sun come up last week when the first big frost came. It was beautiful ...and what leaves were left on the trees were weighted down with frost...they were falling so fast and were so heavy they made a hell of a lot of noise...sounded like an army marching through...

Then I came in and got coffee because it was COLD...

Poor little insect, I guess he can't play with the puppy anymore. Maybe the kitties still like him.

Brrrr...we had an unseasonably warm day today, but it won't last. I've never seen a praying mantis froze to death, I thought they went underground when it got cold.

Nice pics Sandy!

I have to tell ya a funny...

Late night baseball game(several years ago) with youngest son... One dad standing on lowest bleacher with ball glove in hand and talking up a storm about something or another. This HUGE Mantis lands on the glove, about 6 or so inchs in length. This dad thinks its cool and holds it up head high and he's looking it in the eye and moving his head around and the Mantis was moving with him and it was pretty cool watching them together.

Then, without warning.. the Mantis jumped (flew) and landed on dads face! I said he was big, he was attached to this dudes face and even after all the playing around with the little feller, when that happened he did a 1/2 back flip off the bleacher screamed like a little girl and landed on his back in the dirt.

No video... what a shame. I laughted and cried at the same time.

Poor little praying mantis. The frost looks beautiful. Mother Nature treats us to some lovely scenery if we look close enough, doesn't she? It's easy to see why they are called lamb's ear...they look just like them.
We had some snow up here on Thursday and Friday, but nothing that stuck...yet! Perish the thought!
