WEST VIRGINIA GHOST STORY

This happened about a month ago just outside a little town in the low country of West Virginia, and while it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, it's real. A guy was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a really dark night in the middle of a thunderstorm.

Time passed slowly and no cars went by. It was raining so hard he could hardly see his hand in front of his face. Suddenly he saw a car moving slowly, approaching and appearing ghostlike in the rain. It slowly crept toward him and stopped.

Wanting a ride really bad, the guy jumped in the car and closed the door, only then did he realize that there was nobody behind the wheel. The car slowly started moving and the guy was terrified, too scared to think of jumping out and running.

The guy saw that the car was slowly approaching a sharp curve, still too scared to jump out, he started to pray and begging for his life; he was sure the ghost car would go off the road and into the marsh and he would surely drown, when just before the curve, a hand appeared through the driver's window and turned the steering wheel, guiding the car safely around the bend.

Paralyzed with fear, the guy watched the hand reappear every time they reached a curve. Finally the guy, scared to near death, had all he could take and jumped out of the car and ran to town.

Wet and in shock, he went into a bar and voice quavering, ordered two shots of whiskey, then told everybody about his supernatural experience. A silence enveloped and everybody got goose bumps when they realized the guy was telling the truth and was not just some drunk.

About half an hour later two guys walked into the bar and one says to the other: “Look Bubba, there's that idiot who rode in our car when we were pushing it in the rain."

I’m just killing time waiting for the election results, hahaha, as if we’re going to hear anything tonight! I went to do my patriotic duty and voted early this morning and boy was it ever crowded…you would have thought someone was running for Senator or something! *LOL* Now I hope they pick up all their banners they have strung up and down the road, but if they don’t, the wooden stakes will make nice kindling for a warm, cozy fire.

I hope you enjoyed the joke. I read it tonight in one of my emails from our granddaughter, Sarah and thought you might like it.

I’m also baking some cheese twists and after the first batch they ARE NOT being twisted anymore. I guess that’s why some people also call them cheese straws. They’re really good and Jimmy finished off the first batch even before the second batch was out of the oven…and it took me so long to twist each one of them too...one by one, and carefully arranging them ever so neatly on the cookie sheet. ARGH!!!! That's the last time I do that. He ate them so fast I didn't even get a picture. You'll just have to use your imagination and Jimmy can swear to their good taste.

Here’s the recipe: (And here’s another variation)

Cheese Twists

1 ¾ cups all purpose flour
½ tsp. cayenne pepper
1 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
1/8 tsp salt
1 stick plus 6 TBS. softened butter
3 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated

Mix the butter & cheese in a bowl or blender. Add flour, salt, cayenne & Worcestershire by using a pastry blender to blend thoroughly. Chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 300ยบ F.
Roll out dough 1/8 – ¼ inch thick and cut in strips and gently twist. Arrange on ungreased baking sheet and bake 20 – 25 minutes or until lightly browned.

Gee, I didn't know a praying mantis could eat a hummingbird or a frog for that matter. Doesn't seem probable does it??

Your cheese twists sound good and from your description of Jimmy eating them, then they must have been!! Cheese makes everything (just about) better!!

Loved the story - pushing the car - LOL. The cheese twists sound great but I am with you cheese straws - quicker and easier.
Saw your post on the frost. It is hard to imagine I am sitting here with the A/C on trying to stay cool.
I had no idea preying mantis ate all those things - I thought the just ate bugs - thanks for the info.

Very clever ghostly tale!

Now I am feeling hungry for cheese twists, too. I'm off to search the pantry for something salty and cheesy....

I love that joke.
You always make me smile Sandy....or laugh! Usually it's laugh out loud :)
I can't even imagine having the patience to put twists in all those little things. And then to have Jimmy gobble them up so fast! See, I'm laughing again :)

Thanks for the cheese sticks I'm in the mood to bake, first I have to get off the net and clean this kitchen:(

I used one of those voteing signs for a warning sign over the hole in the dam.

Doesn't he KNOW by now we demand pictures of everything??? lol Hope your day is going well Sandy! Hugs xox

Great story Sandy! I was falling for it. I'm so glad to see the end of political commercials, signs and phone calls. Ready to go back to regular life.

Sandy - I took off a little early last night so I could rune home and pick up my wife so that we could do our civic duty. I heard that the turn out (in spite of the hype) was only 46%. Seems funny that there are less than a majority of the people in the country who are deciding what ALL of us are doing! Oh well... I guess that is what freedom is all about! ~ jb///

Cute story. What part of Kentucky are you in? I grew up in Hardin County around Ft. Knox. My dad was born down in Union County. I sure miss Kentucky....sigh.
God bless!

Today is Sunday. I hope all the political signs got picked up. Sometimes down here in Houston I see them fo months after an election.

I hope things are going well for you.

I listenend carefully to somebody who once said "life is too short to stuff a mushroom" - I guess that would go for twisting cheese straws too?

Very funny joke, I'd forgotten till I got to the end that I'd heard it before ::shivers::

I am surprised to have read so little about the election around the blogs, I thought there would be more - all the news services here in Oz are on and on about it and the likely wash-up.

We're having municipal elections today. I am more than disillusioned with politics, but I ALWAYS vote. Someday my candidate will win, but my vote always seems to be the 'vote of death'. I should make the candidates pay me NOT to support them. They will more likely win that way.

Loved your ghost story, lol! I think my kids would like your cheese twists.
