RED-NECK Valentine

I had a wonderful Valentine's Day, how about you? My sweetie took me out to eat and gave me a heart shaped box of chocolates although I had told him in advance not to get me anything...He doesn't seem to listen very well. *LOL*

I saw in the news this morning about letting very young children forget spelling lists and tests and just let them spell words the way they hear them...They say the correct way of spelling words will come to them later on, when they're older. And of all the places they are starting this program, wouldn't you know it, would be in Kentucky. We are already labeled as dumb, bare-foot & pregnant and red-necky and there are lots of people who can't spell already. They say it's easier for the children to begin this way...with mispelled words and later on they will learn the correct way of spelling a word. Someone is going to have to convince me of this. I may be wrong, but I didn't have any trouble learning to spell correctly in the first place and it's worked alright for many people I know. Some people that I know never learned to spell correctly and still don't. I just hope that these leaders know what they're doing. Enough of my rant and on to something else.

Here's a little red-neck Valentine poem that I received...I won't tell you who sent it to me because, it was from a secret admirer, ha ha (just kidding).

Red-Neck Valentine

Collards is green
My dog's name is Blue
And I'm so lucky to have
A sweet thang like you.

Yore hair is like cornsilk
A flapping in the breeze
Softer than Blue's
And without all them fleas.

You move like the bass
Which excite me in May
You ain't got no scales
But I luv you anyway.

Yo're as satisfy'n as okry
Jist a-fry'n in the pan
Yo're as fragrant as "snuff"
Right out of the can.

You have som'a yore teeth
For which I am proud.
I hold my head high
When we're in a crowd.

On special occasions
When you shave under yore arms
Well, I'm in hawg heaven
And awed by yore charms.

Still them fellers at work
They all want to know
What I did to deserve
Such a purdy, young doe.

Like a good roll of duct tape
Yo're there for yore man.
To patch up life's troubles
And fix what you can.

Yo're as cute as a junebug
A buzzin' overhead
You ain't mean like those fat ants
I found in my bed.

Cut from the best cloth
Like a plaid flannel shirt,
You spark up my life
More than a fresh load of dirt.

When you hold me real tight
Like a padded gunrack,
My life is complete
Ain't nuttin' I lack.

Yore complexion, it's perfection,
Like the best vinyl sidin'
Despite all the years
Yore age, it keeps hidin'

Me'n you's like a Moon Pie
With a RC cold drank
We go together
Like a skunk goes with stank.

Some men, they buy chocolate
For Valentine's Day.
They git it at Wal-Mart,
It's romantic that way.

Some men git roses
On that special day
From the cooler at Kroger.
"That's impressive," I say.

Some men buy fine diamonds
From a flea market booth.
"Diamonds are forever,"
They explain, suave and couth.

But for this man, honey,
These won't do.
Cause yo're too special,
You sweet thang you.

I got you a gift
Without taste or odor.
More useful than diamonds...
Yeah, baby, It's a new Trollin' Motor.

From yore sweet thang with luv.

(And don't let that husband of yorn
near that new Trollin' Motor)

The spelling thing is not new and certainly not unique to KY. They've been doing it here, at least since my high school age grandchildren were in the early grades.

Not that they don't teach spelling but they want the kids to concentrate more on putting their thoughts to paper.

I don't see why they can't do both at the same time so the kids don't have so much to unlearn.

I haven't heard of that spelling policy here in CA. I work with both my grandsons several times per week on spelling. It's stressed as one of the most important things on their report card (along with reading and math)
Glad you had a good Valentine's Day and loved the Red Neck Joke!!

Awww what a sweetie Jimmy is...it's a good thing I know that's not him in the picture!! LOL Whew!!!

I'm with you, we learned how to spell in class, why can't kids today do the same thing?! I know a few kids in their teens and their spelling is atrocious...makes you wonder what ARE they teaching them!

That redneck poem is just too funny! hehe

Hugs xoxo

What a great poem. And, i agee with you on the spelling thing. It reminds me of a time in NC where the teacher didn't mark 2+2=5 as wrong on a child's paper. The mother called the teacher and asked what that was all about. The teacher: "Oh, I didn't want to damage her self-esteem by telling her she was wrong. She'll learn soon enough what 2=2 equals."

I agree, why not learn to spell correctly the first time...would seem to be less confusing
