Summer's gone

Summer has come and gone and now the days, along with the nights, are getting cooler. Cool nights remind me of a song, Cool Night by Paul Davis. If you follow my blog you know that I like listening to music. I can get lost in a song and lately I've been listening to the words much closer than I used to. Cool Night has a very soothing and lovely melody and who doesn't want to be held once in a while by someone they love?

Fall is here and it's usually in the third week of October that we see beautiful fall colors here in Berea, but because of all the rain we've had, everything is still green. Berea College always had what was called Mountain Day when I was a student there and the college would excuse all the students from classes on Mountain Day to go out and climb the mountain out at Indian Fort, known as Indian Fort Mountain. The college would pack us all sack lunches and off we would go. We could walk all the way out there or take the school bus to Indian Fort and start from there...myself & others would walk all the way out there from the college. Climbing up the mountain was always refreshing and I remember how I once jumped from one rock cliff to another with the help of other students prepared to catch me if I should slip while landing on the other opposing rock ledge. Falling would have meant death and for sure multiple broken bones. Jumping back was much harder because you didn't have running room, but we all made it. After hiking and squeezing through narrow passage ways all morning we would come back off the mountain for our sack lunches which were all waiting below at the Fort. After lunch we could continue to climb the mountain for the rest of the day or if we wanted to we could go home...I always stayed all day. Mountain Day was one of the highlights of my college years. It was a time when I could forget that I was a mom & wife and just be a college student having fun & taking risks with other college students for one day a year.

Where is that mountain? A good history lesson.

Good morning dear Sandy:-) Finally finding the time to come visit! Make sure you come by my blog today, you're there dressed up as a little faerie! hehe

Our autumn colours were at their peak this past week but this morning everything is white...yup, woke up to snow! Ugh! It looks pretty but this is much too early for snow.

Mountain Day sounds like it was a lot of fun and I loved looking at the pictures of the trail on your link, just beautiful at this time of year!!! xoxo
