Jimmy's chocolate fudge brings back memories of my childhood

This morning I baked some loaves of Banana Nut Bread and I wasn't finished baking yet, but Jimmy came back from his doctor's appointment, with good news I might add, and decided that he wanted to make his Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge, so I gave him the reins to the kitchen and left to check my email. When he finished with the fudge he brought me the spoon to lick. The long wooden spoon was covered with very smooth and creamy chocolate fudge and the taste took my mind back to a time long ago and to my Grandfather Pablo's house.

It was at my grandfather's house in San Gabriel, California that I first tasted chocolate fudge. It wasn't exactly at his house, but at the next door neighbors house. I was a preschooler and the little girl from next door would come over to play and then she would invite me to her house for chocolate fudge. We'd have to cross through my grandfather's garden to get to her house because we were too young to go near the road. As I remember, we were always sneaking into her refrigerator, each armed with spoons. Her mother apparently could never get her fudge to set up right so she'd stick the plate in that tray just under the freezer. We would sneak in there several times during the day and scoop out some fudge with our spoons. The fudge was always soft and it was easy to coat our spoons with the fudge. It was so good and each time Jimmy hands me the warm fudge covered spoon to lick off, the taste takes me back to that time when I first tasted that smooth rich taste of chocolate fudge and I think of my grandfather.

This was not a Christmas memory, but a memory I only think about during the Christmas holidays.

There is a song, "Thanks for the memories." I think it is Bob Hopes theme song. A friend of mine met him on the street and said that he was as nice on the street as he was on TV or in the movies. Thanks for the memory.

Yes, I know that song of Bob Hope's. I used to watch Bob Hope's Christmas specials that he did for the troops and he always sang that song. He sang it every time he entertained the troops.

Wow, Jimmy even bakes fudge! Does he have any faults at all??? ;)
Isn't it neat how food can jog a childhood memory?
