Rick has been exceptionally good to me lately. I'm not trying to wonder why, but only enjoying his company and his help doing chores around the house. He's like he was when we first met, except that I no longer have to pay him by the hour for repairing things around the house.
Yesterday he repaired my mailbox. Someone had hit it with something or perhaps a truck had run into it while driving by. Anyway, the door would no long close because it got all bent kinda sideways and also the side of the mailbox was a little dented in. Rick took a flat board, some vise grips and a hammer and he straightened it all up and now the door works perfectly. What probably happened was that the mailman or lady probably left the mailbox door open as sometimes they do and someone driving by clipped it.
Last week an 81 year old man took out the 3 mailboxes next door to me as he left the road, barely missing a big tree and landing in the neighbors front yard. Thank goodness their grandchildren weren't playing in the front yard at that time. I'm not sure if some of their toys got crushed or not. The man was okay and he managed to drive his car away. The neighbor Chris said that he will no longer allow the children to play in the front yard.
A few months before on the other side of us, someone took out another 3 mailboxes and just drove off. At the same neighbors home, a truck left the road and went airborne and landed hitting Blonde's SUV.
In our yard we have had 2 cars landing in our front yard. One took out a section of our chainlink fence, and the other car just left the road as it skidded on ice and snow and landed in our front yard.
What do all our houses have in common? We have a steep bank in front of our yards and once your vehicle tires get too near the edge, they just slide down over the bank. There have also been 2 fatalities in front of our houses which were very sad to say the least. People drive by our houses like they're on I-75 and then lose control. Our road is also straight and also used as a drag strip at times. We have seen them racing each other at times, but it doesn't happen too often because the State Police sometimes like to park and watch our road for easy speeding tickets. One of our past neighbors once came home late at night a little tipsy and missed her driveway and landed in her own front yard. She couldn't get the SUV out and left it there overnight for her boyfriend or husband to take care of getting it out.
One time Jimmy and I were approaching our driveway while we were on the motorcycle together. Jimmy turned his turn-signal on early enough for the two cars behind us could slow down, but as we were beginning to make our turn into our driveway the second car behind us decided to pass the car in front of it and nearly hit us. That was a very close call, so now I don't turn into my driveway when I'm being followed by two cars because you never know what the second car will do, and I won't leave my driveway to get onto the main road if there are two cars coming from town, because even tho my lane might be empty, it won't be empty for long if that second car decides to pass. I wished I didn't live where I do because 1016 is clearly a very dangerous road and all who live on any part of Hwy 1016 know this.
