He leaves behind a very loving wife, Gerry (Gigi) Wright Shattler, son, Ronald Howard Shattler, Jr. and his wife, Roxana Doyle, daughter, Amber Shattler Huston and husband Joe Huston, daughter Laura Shattler and Dirk Miller, and daughter Stacey Wright Bomsta and Grant Bomsta. He had a brother, David, a sister, Diane, a younger brother, Jerry and sister, Susie, all who preceded him in death. He is also survived by sister, Sandy Wallace Diaz and brother, Dennis Diaz, both living in Kentucky. He always said that his sister, Susie, is the one who taught him LOVE.

Also surviving him are grandchildren Wyatt Huston, Ronald Shattler, III and Liz Shattler, Max Shattler, Logan Bomsta, Ellie Bomsta and Hutton Bomsta, and two great grandchildren A.J. and Erin Shattler. Ron has numerous cousins, all of whom loved him and his other siblings.

Among some of his jobs, Ron worked for over twenty-five years selling paper among such companies as the Inland Paper Co. in Southern California. For several years he drove an 18-wheeler for C R England Trucking Co., just for fun. When the "fun" became work, he quit and began more traveling. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and his long and happy rides. He was a member of the East Tennessee Corvette Club and he loved traveling in his "hot" car. His hobbies included painting canvases with his wife, Gigi and fishing, especially with his son, Ronnie.

Ron lived practically his entire life dealing with health issues resulting from the Agent Orange from his time in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, he flew over 450 recon missions as a door-gunner on a Huey helicopter. He received many air metals and other metals of commendation. Ron was a true Patriot and proud to serve his country.
