THE ANALOGY OF A WEED

Written by Jim Hatcher at Shady Oaks on a cold snowy February day in 1982

WE ARE JUST AS WEEDS
WE RISE FROM SEEDS CARELESSLY SPREAD
WE START IN THE SPRING ALMOST ALL THE SAME

SOME OF US BEGIN IN A LITTLE BETTER SOIL
SOME OF US GET A LITTLE MORE RAIN
SOME OF US GET A LITTLE MORE SUN

SOME OF US GET PROSPEROUS AND FAT
SOME OF US HIGH AND MIGHTY
SOME OF US LEAN AND MEAN

SOME OF US GET STEPPED ON
SOME OF US GET CROWDED OUT
SOME OF US FADE WITH DISEASE

BUT IN THE FALL DEATH COMES TO ALL
WE END IN THE FALL ALMOST ONE AND ALL
JUST AS WE BEGAN IN THE SPRING
