Dogwood/Redbud Winter

There's a Redbud tree blooming on the other side of the porch in the picture above...Can you see it? Every year when the Redbud trees bloom we get a cold spell called, "Redbud Winter." Then when the Dogwood trees bloom we get another cold spell. This year the trees have bloomed at exactly the same time, so instead of just getting a cold spell we got a double whammy...SNOW.
My azalea bush was getting ready to burst out in full bloom. A couple of the flowers had already opened and bloomed when the weather turned cold a night or two ago. Just last week the weather here was around 80-85ยบ F. and someone b.l.i.n.k.e.d. There's a saying here in Kentucky that if you don't like the weather here, just blink and it will change. Well, I was liking it fine the way it was and I'd sure like to know who blinked.
Here's another picture of the azalea and you can see the buds much better in this picture. It was going to really be beautiful this year. I took good care of it and fed it when I was supposed to and everything was coming along great until this cold spell hit. We still have one more cold spell to go and that's called, "blackberry winter" and it comes when the blackberries bloom. I've never really paid to much attention to these cold snaps but they are always right on cue. Even though I may not always like what the weather does, I do find it rather fascinating.
Here's my pink rhododendron shrub covered with snow. The snow doesn't hurt it because it stays green all year. The lilies in the upper left corner will probably have to start over again and will be killed. This is the second time they have been stricken by freezing weather...they're survivors and will start over as many times as they have to...at least they always have.

Hi Sandy,
I was sure surprised to see all that snow in Kentucky! I does look quite lovely, though. I hope your flowers survive!

Have a great holiday weekend.

We had a blizzard here also this afternoon but luckily it didn't stick, just snowed very heavily for about two hours. Then the sun came out and the temperature rose about 2-3 degrees.

I didn't blink to cause this crazy weather, but we sure did blink several times when it started snowing because we just couldn't believe it.

Hooray for those lilies. Any plant that starts all over as many times as it has to is my kind of plant.

Hi Sandy, your winters sure hang on in your part of the world, with us it's more likely to be the summer that keeps on keeping on.

Have you heard of linen britches winter? Some old timer said that one was still to go!!

Happy Easter Sandy!!

Isn't Mother Nature being a little rascal this year?! lol We've got the snow and cold temps too...my Spring flowers still haven't bloomed, I think they're scared to! I must go start to prepare my Easter Brunch soon but I wanted to take a few minutes to do some visiting and wish you and yours a very Happy Easter!! xoxo

Wow if it wasn't for the harm the snow did to your plants it would be really neat to see. Good luck with your flowers.

Oh your poor flowers! I can't believe you got more snow than we did! Closer to Lake Ontario they got about a foot or so, but we had mostly flurries with light snow coverings for several mornings in a row.We had about an inch on Easter Sunday morning. The wind has been wicked and some of the flurries were pretty heavy. Like everyone else, we're so sick of the cold! I hope your poor flowers make it. So sad about the fruit trees.
