We have REALLY clean dishes tonight

While I was blog reading tonight, trying to play catch-up, Jimmy came in to my room and announced that all the dishes in the rack were washed. I said, "I know, I washed them all except for a skillet I had soaking." Not being accustomed to me washing a dish, Jimmy told me that he thought they were dirty dishes and rewashed them again.

You see....we seldom have dirty dishes in the sink. We use paper plates & bowls and the only things that get dirty are silverware, which we rinse out and leave in the sink, along with our coffee cups. It takes several days before we have enough to wash and Jimmy has always done the dish washing.

Lately my love of cooking has returned and we've been eating in for several weeks now. We have gone out for dinner for so long (about 13 years) that my stove smoked up when I turned it on. Now don't get me wrong...I do cook for the whole family on Holidays, but thats it. I've always enjoyed baking, but never quite found the time to do any except at Christmas when it's so cold outside that I'm forced to remain indoors. I don't know what has gotten into me, but I find myself planning a meal in my head as early as noon, and sometimes I wake up with a meal plan in my head. I jot things down and we make daily trips to the store to get our ingredients.

Today I was finally able to fix a meal for both of us for about $11...we can eat out at a buffet and get everything for a total of $12, so it is still costing us more to eat in, but it tastes so much better at home. And you all know you can't buy some things at a restaurant...they can only be fixed at home.

When I cook I dirty up several pots & pans and have to do dishes while I'm preparing a meal or otherwise the kitchen looks like a disaster area...not fit to eat in. For all I know Jimmy has been washing what I have already washed prior to today, but today he mentioned it because I dirtied up more pots, pans & bowls than usual. He needed an extra pat on the back I guess.

I know what you must be thinking....That I don't do a good job of washing dishes or otherwise Jimmy would know that he was washing clean dishes. Not so. We have always rinsed the milk glasses, cups & silverware so food doesn't get stuck on it...Sometimes we have even rinsed out our paper plates. Crazy huh. But that's so they won't smell in the trash can. We don't have much trash and it stays in the house for a couple of days or so.
Another reason he rewashed the dishes was because he has a bad habit of putting dirty cups & glasses into the dish drainer where only clean dishes should go, since he has always washed everything no matter where he finds it. I usually put my clean dishes away, but tonight I was anxious to get started on reading what everyone has been up to lately and left the dishes to drain in the rack.

So that's why we have REALLY clean dishes tonight.

And this is a really pathetic post.

Hi Sandy,
I have one of those handy dandy dishwashers at my house too (the husband type that is) He often gets confused on certain aspects of the whole process. Who cares! I'm glad for the help, because we eat at home about 95% of the time!!

I'm glad you've been catching up on blog reading. It's always so nice to "see" you.
Reading about life at your house is always fun Sandy and never fails to make me chuckle. Jimmy is such a helpful person. You too are a perfect match :)
Ross is getting pretty good at washing dishes too!
Enjoy your renewed interest in cooking!!

Time to stop washing dishes and start doing other things. I'm glad you are cooking at home again. Made chicken enchiladas (thanks for the recipe) last night and they were very good.

Come see us if you're so inclined. I have the dominoes ready.

Lol Sandy, at least you didn't say the cats lick the plates clean! hehe I'll never forget this one time at my youngest brother's place, he had me believing his dog had licked the plates clean the night before...thought I was going to lose my dinner! lol xox

I'm becoming accustomed to washing a few dishes now that Ray is ill. Once he recovers, he'll take over again.

I actually don't mind them but he always beats me to it.

As for saving dishes, I serve sandwiches on paper towels. How's that for lazy?

We do the same thing at our house. Matter of fact I could have written this blog myself except for the part about the husband doing the dishes. But all the other stuff is what we do too.

I too am catching up on blog reading, seems there's been a spate of AWOL bloggers lately.
