Catch and Release

First I should say, that after two days Jimmy fixed the shower faucet leak successfully...however there was a rather large opening in the wall that needed to be tended too. We used to have a mirror covering the hole, but it got broke and shattered into a million pieces. It wasn't a place for a mirror to be anyway, because who would ever think of standing over and to the side of the toilet to apply makeup.
Jimmy was going to buy another mirror to put in its place, but for the moment we needed something so I suggested we use the GIANT Valentine's card that I had given him years ago. This card measured 24 inches by 18 inches and it was hard to keep in a keepsake drawer and had been propped behind a dresser for some years now, and what better use for it than to use it to cover the hole in the wall. He wasn't going to throw it away and it was the perfect size too. It looked so nice on the wall that we have decided to keep it there....Nobody can see it anyway but us, and it apparently means something to Jimmy. Well that was this weekend's news, but the main reason I decided to write a post today was because.......

Drum roll please.......

Jybow caught her first mouse....
(her first anything)

Jimmy & I were looking out the back door watching for that mean tomcat that had just attacked our sweet little Daisy, when we spotted Jybow coming from the creek in a dead run. At first we thought something must have frightened her but as she got closer we noticed a gray little thing in her mouth. We were so proud that she had finally, after all this time, caught something that we opened the door and she ran straight into the house and into the master bathroom. She then stopped looked up at us and set her catch down while I was blubbering something like, "Let me get my camera, let me get the camera." Well, she put it down, but it wasn't hurt and you can guess what happened next. Yes....we were busy running around the bathroom trying to catch the little bugger....the cat going one way, Jimmy following and I jumping around saying, "let me get a picture." It was like a circus in there. Jimmy finally trapped it using a cat litter spatula and had it over it like a small tiny cage. We managed to take the little mouse back outside and let it go.

In the meantime Jybow was still in the bathroom searching for her little mouse, so I went back inside and carried her out to where it was. She spent the last hour merely following the mouse around until it gave her the slip. She didn't try to hurt it, she would bend down to touch it gently with her nose as if to get a good smell of it and on occasion when it would try to hide she would gently touch it with her paw to get it to move along. I was very surprised at how gentle she was with it. We watched her, I still in my jammies & robe until the mouse got away. I was hoping to get a picture of her with the mouse in her mouth, but she never picked it up again...it must have left a bad taste in her mouth.

I like the Valentine idea!! That serves two purposes and no one (but us) will know there is a hole behind there!

Poor mouse! After all that trauma it will probably need mouse therapy and counseling now, so Jybow may get a bill for those services!!

The picture of you all running around in the house with the mouse on the loose was quite comical!!

LOL- Sandy- I love this! But it is unusual that your cat didn't hurt the mouse....

My old gentle, loving 'Tiger' even caught a mouse once (that I know of) He DID kill it but didn't eat it!

We have a cat that thinks cat food is garbage and does catch her own food; then comes in and sleeps the entire day on Motherkitty's bed. All of Kitten Yarns White Cats hunt. Someone brought in a bird yesterday while I was typing and I said to her, "OUTSIDE!" and she promptly went out the cat door with her live-meow-mix.
There was a movie about a photo covering an escape route a few years back.

Just love the Valentine idea. Now that is something I would do.
Jybow must have been really happy to have a live play thing. Did you know the mother cat has to teach the kittens to kill unless they actcidentally kill something.
That must have been a hoot in the bath room. I can just see you with the camera - something else I would be doing too.

I think that Jybow is a sweetheart, and just wanted to play! And I keep all of my cards, I could probably wallpaper a room with all of the cards I've kept over the years! My sis, doubleknot, told me that you saved my tiger photo (yes, he is sitting in a pool of water), I'm honored! my dh (dear hubby) and I have yearly passes to Busch Gardens and Seaworld, and we like to go during the cooler weather. My dh likes to tell people we go just to check out changes in the landscaping! lol. Anyway, I would love to see some videos on your blog, got any of Jybow's antics?

Maybe he could scare a mouse to death someday. Funny post.

Two good laughs in one post, Sandy :)
We chuckled about the ingenious hole cover...great idea! :)
But Jybow with her first mouse is just the best story. Ross and I laughed out loud about that one. It reminded us of our antics with Jasmine and the mouse capers of last winter, although I didn't have time to grab the camera :)
Jybow is the sweetest kitty...a real pussycat :)
That little mouse has quite a story to tell its buddies!

Too funny Sandy! The Jybow story was great :)
That mouse must be breathing a sigh of relief!
Also love your clever wall covering!
