Cell phones only as good as the towers

I've been on my land line phone for the last hour and a half trying to resolve the issue of our cell phones not working this morning. I merely intended to report that something was wrong with the cell tower or towers that I use when at home, but they insisted that they needed to check out our phones, install updates and do all kinds of tricks to them, but in the end, after an hour and a half, they concluded that something is wrong with the cell tower.

So if you need me, or just want to talk for now and can't get through, call my home land line phone. Of course if I'm out and away from the house my cell phone works fine or at least I think it will. Jimmy took his phone with him to another town and the cell phone company was able to install updates to his phone without a problem, so his phone is working....just not working here at home. My cell phone on the other hand was not able to receive any of the updates so I am to call them when I leave the house and get near a working tower so that they can then install the updates to my phone. However they assured me that the updates are NOT needed but are only installed to enhance the connectivity of my cell phone when making calls. What do they mean they're not needed? I only have a cell phone so that I can connect to other people. If I didn't care about connectivity I'd just use a tin can and a string.

Just imagine that 40 years ago Dick Tracy was the only guy around who could talk on a cell phone.

You forgot about Maxwell Smart who talked into the sole of his shoe.
