Winter Forecast

This little solid black woolly worm was crawling across my porch and I suddenly remembered what I've often heard from southerners around these parts. They say that if you see a solid black woolly worm that you are in for a cold snowy winter.

Well, there you have it...the weather forecast for this winter. I wonder if he's as accurate as that groundhog from Philadelphia?

I love to watch wooley worms crawl but I won't pick one up. They seem prickly like a porcupine.

Actually that groundhog isn't from Philadelphia. He's from Punxsutawney PA and he never tells the truth.
My husband always tells me when he sees a woolly worm and gives me the forecast.

We had a woolly worm on our home 3 weeks ago and it was dark and almost black.

Cheyenne...thanks for that correction I was just going by the groundhogs name of Punxsutawney Phil and made the assumption that "Phil" stood for Philadelphia. That's what I get for thinking, hahahah.

that is a new saying to me...but then again we seldom have long cold snowy winters here

Funny seems like it just stopped snowing there about a month or so ago.

groundhog sweethog, we know winter is over cause the rattlesnakes lie in the sun

I hope you woolly grub is as accurate as Punxsatawney Phil in PA :) Meaning not at all. Cold and snow are not among my favorite things.
I haven't seen any solid black ones around here.
