It is going to be another beautiful day here in Kentucky. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the Canada Geese just honked their hello's as they flew over. Yesterday I saw a mother Canada goose with her little goslings hovering all around her. They sure looked tiny compared to her.
This morning I'm thinking of Rick's aunt Callie. After all these years that I've known her, I never realized that her birthday and Mother's Day were less than a week apart.
Here's a picture of sweet Callie with her birthday cakes from years past. This year was kind of a quiet birthday for her and I was very surprised about that, because it was her 80th Birthday, and to me, that's a big deal and quite a milestone and she should have had a big, big party. She's so energetic tho and always hovering around taking care of everyone, so I guess nobody thought that this birthday was any milestone at all for her.
When Rick & I stopped by to give Callie a hanging basket of beautiful velvety deep purple petunias on her birthday, we expected to see others there, but it was only her sister Gracey who had spent the night there, looking like she had just crawled out of bed. We asked where everybody was and Callie told us that Harold had a doctors appointment at 9:00 a.m. and Kathy had gone with him. By 6:00 p.m. they hadn't returned so I assumed that they were out getting Callie a gift and maybe even a birthday cake for her birthday. I was wrong, no surprises for Callie except for the surprise she felt at them not spending the day with her on her birthday. When they came home they told us about stopping to eat out and I was surprised by that. I was kind of shocked too, so I am taking Callie out on the town......just her and I.
Callie is a special lady and would give me the shirt off her back if I wanted or needed it. That's just how she is. She's the most generous person that I know. You can't stop by her house without her trying to feed you or making you take something home for later. If she has a box of tomatoes, you will be taking tomatoes home with you. Rick has come home with boxes of cereal before or a new throw pillow that she has bought for him. When she gets the chance to get out and go shopping, she thinks of everyone and everyone gets a gift from her. She loves to give, and she gives me great joy and her and Harold lift my spirits when I am down. Sometimes I'm missing Brian and all I have to do is to go to Callie's and before long I am laughing my head off at something she, Harold, Rick or Kathy have said.
It's just like having a grandmother who is always glad to see you with open arms and a big smile on her face, and when you are getting ready to leave she'll ask you if you can't possibly stay longer or come back tomorrow. She makes you feel welcomed, so I enjoy her company even tho she can't hear very well. Her partial deafness makes for very interesting conversations at times, but we all still love her and this world is a better place with her in it.
