HOT & HUMID

Today is the longest day of the year, and the first day of summer.  You wouldn't have known it by the hot Spring weather that we have had in the last couple of weeks.  I'd venture to say that summer actually started two weeks ago, when the daytime temps reached triple digits.  Now, that's hot!

One afternoon while we were in Richmond, we came out to our parked car, started it up and soon the outside temperature gauge on the car was reading 105 degrees F.  Of course when we drove into the countryside the temp went down into the 90's.  Blacktop is hot! and in cities all there is, is blacktop.

This week is shaping up to be another beautiful week, but with little or no rainfall again.  We haven't had any rain for about 2 weeks and the trees, bushes and grass are really beginning to show signs of drying.  Tomorrow we have another chance of scattered thundershowers, and I'm praying for rain.  The way it's shaping up to be is that the rain clouds will go just above us and below us as they nearly always do.  We're lucky that way when it comes to bad storms, but it would be nice to get some needed rain.

The temperatures this week are also going to be in the upper 90's and maybe into the triple digits as well.  Another hot week again.  The only advantage to this hot, dry weather is that we don't have to mow.  My grass is at a standstill as long as it remains dry.

I'm about ready to do a rain dance, but then I'll have to get back to mowing.  I wonder how long we have to do without rain before it's considered a draught?
