Weird Snow Day

Woke up to about 2 inches of snow on the ground.  Looked out later...no snow.  Wait a few minutes, look out again and there is snow covering the ground again. Watch it melt away.  Look out the window and you can't see across the yard,  it is snowing so heavily.  Snow melts again so we go to Walmart, then the car in front of us disappears....it's a white-out.  We keep going and by the time we reach the first stop light the snowing has stopped.  We are on our way to Walmart and a familiar jeep pulls out in front of us, they don't see us......funny moment :)  It's my jeep!  We trudge onward, shop and then decide to stop at Dinner Bell to eat.  The snow is completely gone and we hear a waitress shout out...."LOOK AT THOSE GIGANTIC SNOWFLAKES!"  We eat and leave and soon encounter snow tracks in the road.  We get home and it is snowing so hard we sit in the car and admire the big snowflakes.....well, I admire the falling snow and Jimmy doesn't :(  We get out of the car, it's snowing hard and Jimmy heads for the door.....he forgot we shopped, so I carry the groceries into house.  I leave the huge bag of Meow Mix in the car.....maybe someone will stop by and carry it in for us, hint hint :)
The ground and the tree branches are covered with snow, and all looks beautiful again.  I get my cell phone and go to take a picture and the snow has melted again....it was so pretty too! and it was Jimmy's favorite kind of snow.....the snow that leaves quickly.
I decided to write about it because it's gone and it didn't come back this time......

Resting up for Spring :)

It snowed all day today with little or no accumulation.  We woke up with a dusting of snow on the ground and we are going to bed with less, despite it snowing all day long.  It was pretty though and even Jimmy enjoyed watching it snow today, which is unusual for him.  He doesn't normally like snow or the colder months of the year.

We have a warm fire going and the cats didn't even want to venture outside very much.  We did have four cats who went out twice, but they sure didn't stay out for very long.  I don't blame them, I didn't stay out for very long either.  Just long enough to see what one of the cats was looking at, that caused her to come back inside so quickly.  It was just a feral cat stopping by to eat up the chicken noodle soup that Jimmy didn't finish eating.

We didn't do much today but watch the cats play and watched some TV.  Jimmy went out three times to break the ice out of the cats water bowl and to give them fresh water.  Just like people feed the birds in the winter, we make sure that the feral cats outside have fresh water and food to eat.  We used to feed the birds until one flew into our brand new window and cracked it.  We didn't find a dead bird beneath the window, so it must have just got knocked senseless, and then flew away.  Poor bird :(

So there you have it!  Our day in a nutshell.

Very Wet Snow

All I can say is...
 This snow is VERY BEAUTIFUL
and PERFECT for making snowmen.

Snow Snow Snow...Winter is NOT going to leave anytime soon.

We saw the grass yesterday and all of our cats were happy.  They spent their day stalking birds, climbing trees and just romping around the yard.  Princess even managed to bring a live mouse into the house for her little calico kitten, but Jimmy cornered it and took the mouse back out.  That's the second time Princess has tried to bring 'live' food into the house for her kitten.  Well, there was no try to it, she did bring live food into the house!  We just don't know how you people with pet doors keep these little varmints out.

We are supposed to meet Ron for lunch today but the sky has opened up and it is snowing to beat the band.  The top rail of the chain link fence, outside the window by my computer,  has an inch and a half, or possibly two inches of snow balanced on it already.  It has fallen very quickly and at this pace, we'll get our forecasted 4 inches of snow today.  It's a very pretty wet snow and is sticking on every branch of every tree, bush & shrub...just anything that is standing above the ground.  The weaved wires of the chain link fence are even snow covered.  Our satellite dish suddenly needs the wet snow to be removed from it because the TVs picture is starting to break up into those little still squares. (Jimmy cleaned it off and we have a good satellite signal again).

Whatever you plan on doing today be careful and stay safe.  I think I'll introduce my kitten to snow.

happy to see the sun

It's Monday and we got a dusting of snow over-night, over the top of our old snow, but thankfully all the snow is quickly melting away, and will be gone soon.  Our thermometer is saying that it's 60 degrees outside, but the bright sun is shining on it and apparently making the thermometer very happy.  I know I feel happy just seeing the sun and I probably would heat up too just feeling it's rays touching me.

I asked Jimmy if it was warm enough to take a ride and he said, "If you can get out of the driveway, be my guest."
I'd try it but I don't want to dirty up my bike that much, and besides, it's not 60 degrees outside...not even close!

It's a good day to sit and sketch

Although we aren't getting much accumulation, the snow is steadily falling and the birds are busily foraging for food beneath our bird feeders.  Jimmy's heart monitor battery, which we were told was supposed to be long lasting, is down to 24% of battery life left.  He's given it quite a workout these snowy days with keeping the sidewalks clear and clearing paths in the snow for the cats to walk in.

All this snow has its drawbacks.  I've put on a few pounds just sitting in the house eating my life away.  My clothes are telling me that it's time to stop snacking so much and get moving.  Now I know why I stopped cooking...it's because I love my own cooking so well :))

Yesterday we made a trip to Richmond to make a doctors appointment with a doctor's office which is hard to reach by phone, and afterwards Jimmy thought he might like to eat a steak so we stopped at Applebee's which was nearby.  As we were eating the snowstorm arrived in all its fury covering the parking lot in minutes.  I've never seen snow fall so fast, so quickly.  The wind was gusting so hard that you couldn't see 20 feet in front of you, which made driving home a little treacherous.  When the wind finally stopped gusting things didn't look so bad after all.  There was a time when I thoroughly enjoyed hazardous driving conditions, but age has tempered my spirit.  Now I don't even want to risk being in a minor fender bender, at least not in my own car.

Our little calico kitten has discovered birds.  She sits on my printer and excitedly chatters at the birds.  I used to watch Jybow do this and now I sit here and watch the kitten chatter, although she is much quieter than Jybow was when she chattered.  It's hard to explain how the cat chatters but I'm sure that those of you who have cats know exactly what I'm talking about.

I'm going to finish drinking my cup of hot tea (Bigelow Constant Comment) and watch it snow for a while and then I'll probably find some good movie to watch.

Watch Out Water Pipes

It was a bone chilling 3 degrees f. this morning when I woke up with another inch of snow deposited on the ground during the night.  We really don't have much of an accumulation, but it sure is cold outside.  I found a picture of Scott splitting wood and it brought back some wonderful memories of the days when I used to split all of our wood.  I loved it!

Jimmy said, "That'll keep him warm."

Jybow is content just looking at the snow from here.

 The bushes out front

There's not much chance of all of this snow melting off before the next round of snow comes in on Wednesday night / Thursday morning.  The cold temps are not good for water pipes, so I hope everyone's pipes are well protected by insulation and heat-tape.  Jimmy has also taken an extra precaution and has a light bulb burning under our crawl space where the main water line enters the house.  So far, so good.

Yesterday we had expected to have my brother Dennis and Laurel here for a visit but their trip was cancelled due to the snow.  The snow didn't stop Ron and Anita from getting out.  Even though it was slow traveling they made it to our house with pizzas in hand to visit and to play a round of Scrabble.  Of course I didn't win the Scrabble game but it was fun, and I found out, that of all the times Scrabble has been played at our house that Jimmy had never played it.  Yesterday was his first time.  Hmmm, I could have sworn that I played Scrabble with Jimmy before.

Keep warm, whether it's accomplished by splitting wood or honkering on down under a warm comforter in front of a fire, just keep warm.   Oh, I almost forgot to show you how my kitties keep warm out in this deep freeze........

The brown plaid blanket is an electric throw blanket which is covered over by a red blanket, and sandwiched between that grey looking blanket and the red blanket are two of our oldest cats.  Beneath all that are cushiony soft pillows.  For outside cats they are the luckiest cats in town!

Do I dare say it? "It's snowing again!"

It's getting closer to Spring but it's still snowing this morning. The weather has warmed up and the snowflakes are big and pretty. Last night it began sleeting and the traffic slowed down quite a bit so we knew that the roads must have gotten slicker. This morning some of the traffic is back to it's normal speed, so the roads must be clear again.

Jimmy was nice enough to remind me that February can be a brutal weather month with frigid temps and large accumulations of snow. Okay, so I can put up with one more month of snow after January because, March is almost always smooth sailing. I know I know, sometimes we have had snow on Easter which is in April, but this year the weather is going to get better starting in March. How do I know this? I don't, it's just wishful thinking.

Finally, properly dressed for snow but where the heck are my gloves

This time I put my shoes on...

It's finally beginning to get serious outside. Jimmy swept off this walkway a few minutes ago and it got covered back over in no time flat. As far as accumulation goes, there still is no more than a dusting of snow on the ground and that's all there's been all day long.

My snowshoes were a gift from Motherkitty and I love them. They've been all over the United States and there's not a day goes by that I don't have them on some time during the day. Thank you Motherkitty.

It's morning...and, I Love my brother

It's a brand new day, a brand new morning and I get another chance to be a better & nicer person. Not, that I've been a bad person, but I do tend to run my mouth sometimes, well lots of times, and I need to think before I speak or comment on my brother's blog. My brother gets my opinions, mostly on politics, and they're not always nice (my opinions). Well, they aren't bad, they're just not the same as his. So I'm going to be better to my brother and if I don't agree then I'm not going to comment, or maybe I'll comment just as nicely as I can with a "Good Morning Brother" just to let him know that I read his post.

That sounds like a New Year's Resolution doesn't it and I don't make New Year's Resolution because I don't keep resolutions. That's just what I call a Daily Resolution. If you mess up and break a New Year's Resolution you've messed up the whole entire year, but if it's a Daily Resolution you only messed up one day and still have the rest of the year to do better, one day at a time.

Do you want to hear about our snow? It turned out to be less than a dusting if that's possible. No winter wonderland here this morning. It's more like a heavy, heavy, heavy frost, in spots but we have another chance for more snow on Thursday, so there's still hope. Some places are having snow with very cold temps and we're having snow with mild above freezing temps which really makes a difference if you go out. It's not that cold here and just a heavy sweatshirt is fine outside.

I don't have any other news yet, but the day is just beginning and there are so many possibilities and chances for me to get into some kind of mischief. So until then, have a nice day and be nice and smile at everyone you meet even if they look mean and don't especially look like they want to smile back at you.

Let's snuggle

It's time to snuggle up, stay warm and sit by the warm glow of the fire. I just looked outside and it's snowing again tonight, but it's a little warm so it's only sticking on the grassy areas and not on the sidewalks or blacktop yet. It's funny, but for a guy who doesn't like snow and goes as far as saying that he hates it, Jimmy is the one who always calls me and says, with an air of excitement in his voice, " Hey honey come over here and see what it's doing outside," he knows I love snow and then we both stand there at the door for a few moments watching the snowflakes falling.

So tonight I'll go to sleep wondering what I'll wake up to find in the morning, what surprises will be in store for me tomorrow. Will my world be snow covered and appear as a snowy white blanket of clean fresh snow as far as I can see, or will it be gone by morning, all melted away, and will I be disappointed? I don't think so because I have so much to look forward to in my future. I have places to go, people to see and most importantly, someone to love.

I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas / Bing Crosby

Last night I stood out on my back steps and watched the snow as it was coming down. The snowflakes were HUGE, some of the BIGGEST I've seen in a while...it was beautiful.

By this morning we had about 3 inches of snow that is quickly melting with our warm temps of 47 degrees. It's nothing but slush out there right now. The snow fell straight down, there wasn't any wind to cause any snowdrifts...I think snowdrifts give snow character. I love blowing snow, but I'm thankful that it didn't blow this time because of the light shades that we lined our front porch with to keep the snow off of the cats warm spot. The bamboo shades are no match for blowing wind and we haven't quite figured out what to do to keep the shades from blowing around other than taking them down when it's windy. We really don't want to build a frame because if we do that we might as well enclose the porch and sometimes I think that might not be such a bad idea. Then the cats would have a nice cozy place to get out of the rain & snow.

This is the first year that the cats have remained on the front porch when the weather is cold. They usually find warm places out of the weather under our buildings even though I always lined a chair & the porch swing with pillows covered by warm afghans. They would lay there in the daytime, but when the cold bitter nighttime air came they'd disappear off to their warm spots wherever that might be. They would leave because the blowing snow would blow in on top of them.
This year I tried something different. Under the afghans I put an electric warming throw and they now remain there all night long. Their spots are toasty warm and the outdoor cats all pile up on top of each other now fighting for a spot on the warm blanket. I was never able to get these cats to lay together for warmth, and now I can't get them apart.

Today is a good day to make Christmas cookies, bake banana nut bread and perhaps even make the chocolate and peanut-butter fudge for Christmas. I already baked some of Reva's favorite cookies last night and I'll be baking more because Jimmy got into them...bad boy, but he loves them too and that's why it's so much fun baking them. Petey , our kitten, even managed to steal one of the cookies off of Jimmy's plate, and he's a bad boy too.

Speaking of bad boys...
Petey is getting into EVERYTHING. He's found the refrigerator magnets and no matter how high you put them, he works until he gets them down. He's the jumping-est cat we've ever had and he loves to steal your socks during the night. Gotta go....I hear the magnets hitting the floor and if I don't get there quick he takes them and hides them never to be seen again.

(Insert catchy Title here)

Has anyone noticed the date today? It's Friday the 13th. I don't know where I'm going with that, but when we woke up this morning there was 3-4 inches of snow on the ground and just when my pretty little daffodils were beginning to bloom. I thought today I would go out and get another picture of their progress, but they look a little crispy along the edges and not very pretty...even in the snow.

I have no clue as to how the small pictures of Jimmy are going to line up when I finally publish my post and I also have no clue as to why they lined themselves up in this order, but hey...I can't complain it's Blogger and it's free, and it's Friday the 13th.

The pictures of Jimmy were taken a couple of days ago when our temps were hovering around the 70 degree mark. We were all outside enjoying the nice weather and our hopes were high that the end of the cold weather was behind us now. So much for dreaming....

As you know, I went to the doctor and had my regularly scheduled blood tests done and yesterday the clinic called to inform me that my blood work was all okay...even my cholesterol which is always a surprise to my doctors. Because I'm heavy they always assume that my cholesterol levels will be high, above normal, and I have had a doctor order a repeat second test once because it was so good with the HDL higher than the LDL, but all within normal levels, that he thought that there might be some mistake. I may be heavy, but I do eat all of the right foods....like Strawberry Shortcake ;)

Jimmy is off to Walmart to buy more birdseed. The birds are really hungry this morning and have emptied out everything. Jimmy fills the feeders & socks up every morning but because of the snow we had extra birds stop by for breakfast and are expecting more for lunch. Hopefully by supper time the snow will be melted and gone. Although it's very beautiful, I'm ready to see pretty flowers, leaves on trees and warm sunny skies.

* I couldn't think of a title
